LEWISBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A routine traffic stop in Lewisburg on April 30, 2025, resulted in multiple charges for a local woman, including DUI with a minor, shoplifting, and child neglect.
According to a report from Patrolman R.C. Johnson of the Lewisburg Police Department, the incident began when officers observed a red Chevy pickup driven by Rebekah Simmons exiting the Go Mart parking lot. The vehicle was stopped in the wrong lane of traffic before correcting course, and officers noted multiple equipment violations, including expired registration, non-functioning registration lights, and a broken third brake light.
During the traffic stop, Simmons reportedly showed signs of impairment, including slurred speech and difficulty following instructions. After agreeing to perform field sobriety tests, officers observed further indicators of impairment. A juvenile passenger was also present in the vehicle.
The child told police that Simmons had previously driven off the road near Shoney’s, crossing both lanes of traffic and causing both to hit their heads inside the truck. The child also stated they had taken flowers from Walmart without paying, with Simmons allegedly saying they’d pay for them later. EMS responded to evaluate the child, who reported dizziness and vision issues, though no hospital visit was made at the time after a family member signed a refusal form.
Simmons was arrested at the scene. Officers later obtained a search warrant for a blood draw, which was conducted at Greenbrier Valley Hospital. Simmons was cleared for injuries before being transported to Southern Regional Jail.
She faces charges including DUI with a minor, no insurance, expired registration, shoplifting, and child neglect for creating a risk of injury. A referral was also made to Child Protective Services.
