CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced a surprise $6,000 pay raise for the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Police Officers today.
The announcement was made today at the WVDNR K-9 program announcement event in Charleston, which is a new program that will equip WVDNR officers with highly-trained K-9s to assist in search and rescue missions and educational outreach.
According to Governor Justice, the pay raise will take effect immediately and will be paid through a special revenue account. All active DNR Police officers and future hires will receive the raise.
“[WVDNR Officers] deserve to be compensated for the hard work and dedication they put in day in and day out and I am proud to announce this pay raise, which I believe will help us attract and retain the best and brightest to this important role,” Governor Justice said.
WVDNR Director Brett McMillion thanked Governor Justice for the pay raise and said that the raise has been needed for some time. “This pay raise is long overdue and will help us attract and retain the highly qualified officers we need to protect our state’s natural resources and to keep our citizens safe,” McMillion said.
