BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) is working closely with contractors to ease traffic congestion as construction progresses on the southern leg of the Beckley Z-Way project along US 19.
The project, part of Gov. Jim Justice’s $2.8 billion Roads to Prosperity program, is aimed at reducing congestion through Beaver, Shady Spring, and into Beckley, benefiting commuters and local businesses alike.
According to Ryland Musick, P.E., District 10 Engineer, WVDOH recently collaborated with contractors to create an emergency vehicle plan for efficient passage through the work zone.
“The plan will get all emergency vehicles traveling through the work zone efficiently,” Musick stated.
The Beckley Z-Way project combines two separate construction contracts, funded through Turnpike bonds.
Current work includes striping eradication and utility relocation.
Upon completion, “This project will greatly alleviate congestion in this area by placing a third lane, tidying up entrances and exits to businesses, and realigning side streets,” Musick said.
Raleigh County Commission President Greg Duckworth highlighted the importance of the project during a recent groundbreaking ceremony.
“Excited is an understatement,” he said. “This initiative doesn’t just represent the commitment to improving our infrastructure, but a pathway to a brighter and more prosperous future for all of us.”
