LEWISBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine has announced that it will be hosting The Nechung Oracle, Kuten-la, the official State Oracle of Tibet and spiritual advisor to the Dalai Lama for an upcoming event.
Kuten-la is currently on tour of the United States and will be stopping in at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine for a public reception scheduled for November 19, 2024, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
The reception will be hosted by the WVSOM Office of Multicultural and Student Affairs at the Conference Center of the WVSOM Student Center and will be open to members of the public along with WVSOM faculty, staff, and students.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime event,” said WVSOM Associate Dean of Multicultural and Student Affairs, Dawn Roberts, Ed.D. “We hope everyone can join us.”
Currently, the Nechung Oracle is the Venerable Thupten Ngodup, who has served in the role for over three decades, beginning in 1988. The Nechung Kuten-la is expected to be accompanied for the reception by Lama Tenzin Choegyal as well as three monks from the Nechung Monastery.
This visit, according to WVSOM, comes as the result of a trip to India taken by Regional Assistant Dean for the South Central Region of WVSOM’s Statewide Campus, Katherine Calloway, D.O. Calloway was one five in a group to visit the Dalai Lama in Dehradun, Uttarakhand and Dharamshala, India. Megan Kelley, Sarah McQueen – WVSOM Class of 2025 medical students, Calloway’s teenage daughter Grace, and Caroline LaFleur, M.D., of Medical Diplomats International were among the group as well.
The upcoming reception event is being coordinated by Dr. Calloway along with Dr. Roberts, and will be held next month at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine’s 400 Lee Street in Lewisburg. Additional information can be found at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine website.
