PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Officials from West Virginia University, WVU Medicine, the WVU Medicine Cancer Institute, and WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital (PCH) came together with local leaders, patients, staff, and community members to celebrate the opening of the new Hematology/Oncology Clinic.
This clinic marks the first phase of the new comprehensive cancer center, which will be a two-story facility located on the campus of WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital. Upon completion, the collaborative effort between the new cancer center and the WVU Cancer Institute will offer the most advanced and multidisciplinary cancer care in the two Virginias regions.
During the opening event, notable speakers included PCH President and CEO Karen Bowling, PCH Board Chair Rusty Sarver, WVU Health System President and CEO Dr. Albert Wright, WVU Cancer Institute Executive Chair and Director Dr. Hannah Hazard-Jenkins, and West Virginia University President Dr. E. Gordon Gee.
The new Hematology/Oncology Clinic aims to streamline patient treatments by consolidating two existing clinics within the hospital. It also provides convenient access to ancillary departments. The clinic features a private wig room with contemporary styles and other supplies for patients, including mastectomy supplies, hats, and head coverings.
Additionally, the space includes a private consultation room for patients and providers, a conference room for educational and team meetings, 14 exam rooms, and two special procedure rooms.
The infusion center, set to open in mid-summer, will be relocated to the main hospital’s second floor to be closer to the new combined clinic. It will offer advanced infusion chairs with heat and massage options to enhance patient comfort during treatment.
PCH has been accredited as a cancer center by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer for over 20 years. The staff includes oncologists, radiation oncologists, advanced practice nurses, nurse navigators, oncology-certified nurses, chemotherapy/immunotherapy-trained staff, as well as licensed professional nurses, medical assistants, registration specialists, phlebotomy staff, and chemotherapy-trained pharmacists.
PCH also offers on-site clinical trials in collaboration with the WVU Cancer Institute.
