BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) will host its annual Homecoming celebration this weekend, featuring a full lineup of events for students, alumni, and community members.
Homecoming festivities will begin Friday, February 20, with the Academic Alumni Awards and the induction of the newest class of the Golden Bear Athletic Hall of Fame. The banquet will be held at The Resort at Glade Springs, where honorees will be recognized for their outstanding achievements and lasting contributions to the WVU Tech community. A complete list of award winners and biographies is available here.
Saturday’s celebration continues with a full day of athletics and family-friendly activities at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Pendleton Community Bank, admission to both basketball games is free and open to the public.
A community tailgate will take place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., featuring inflatables, food, games, and activities for all ages. The tailgate will lead into an exciting basketball doubleheader against Indiana University East, with the Golden Bear women’s team tipping off at 3:00 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 5:00 p.m.
Prior to the women’s game, this year’s Academic Alumni Award recipients will be recognized on the court. Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be honored at halftime. Between games, four WVU Tech students will compete in a special shootout sponsored by Pendleton Community Bank for a chance to win $10,000, and all attendees will have the opportunity to register for a $500 giveaway, which will be given away at the men’s game.
Homecoming Royalty will also be crowned during the men’s game, and Senior Day recognitions will honor the graduating seniors from both teams in their final home appearance of the season.
Throughout the day on Saturday, attendees can purchase Golden Bear merchandise from the bookstore, meet members of the basketball teams, and enjoy special appearances from Monty and the Chick-fil-A cow. Community partners and student groups will provide hands-on activities in the lobby, as well as at the tailgate, along with music from DJ EJ.
WVU Tech would also like to thank this year’s Homecoming sponsors: Pendleton Community Bank as the presenting sponsor, Southern Communications, Tech Golden Bear Alumni Association, Chick-fil-A Beckley Galleria, Raleigh General Hospital, the Beckley Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, Jarrett Construction, Robert Dunlap and Associates, the Beckley Rotary, and West Virginia Radio Corporation.
