BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) is excited to announce the return of Camp STEM, southern West Virginia’s premier STEM experience for high school students.
This immersive, week-long overnight camp will run from June 15-20, 2025 on WVU Tech’s campus in Beckley. Open to students entering grades 9-12 who are interested in science, technology, engineering or math, Camp STEM offers a week full of hands-on activities, college life exposure and career exploration. Applications and deposits are due by May 30, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.
Throughout the week, students will dive into real STEM challenges alongside WVU Tech professors in fields like engineering, mathematics, sciences and forensic investigation. Campers will explore topics such as electronics, robotics, automobiles, and crime scene analysis through exciting, hands-on sessions.
Campers will also get a taste of college life as they live in campus residence halls and be mentored by current WVU Tech students majoring in STEM disciplines. These upperclassmen serve as camp counselors, offering guidance and sharing their own experiences as students in STEM.
“Campers get to collaborate with faculty and peers, solve engineering problems, and explore career options with industry professionals,” said Dr. Nathan Galinsky, Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering. “Our goal is to help students discover the fun and opportunities that come with a future in STEM while building connections that last after the camp ends.”
The all-inclusive camp fee is $400, which covers meals, lodging, camp gear, and activities. Thanks to generous support from camp sponsors TC Energy and Dow, a limited number of need-based scholarships are available.
