WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Billy Ray Scott, 38, of Bluefield, WV, pleaded guilty to Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance on March 11, 2024. He was subsequently sentenced to 1 to 15 years in prison on the same date.
On September 23, 2023, Deputy Zach Cook with the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department was on patrol when he witnessed a vehicle traveling at 55 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. Deputy Cook attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver fled. During the brief pursuit, the suspect vehicle crashed. The driver was identified as Billy Ray Scott. A subsequent search of the vehicle incidental to arrest revealed Fentanyl, Cocaine, Neurontin, and Marijuana.Â
Gregory Bishop, the Wyoming County Prosecutor, stated, “This is a good example of a proactive police officer. We are fortunate to have highly trained and well-supervised officers in Wyoming County.”Â
Assistant Prosecutor Derek Laxton of Wyoming County served as the lead prosecutor in the case. Deputy Zach Cook from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department investigated the crime.
