WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Brett Michael Atnip, 31, of Hanover, WV, pleaded guilty and was convicted of Conspiracy to Commit a Felony and Driving While License Revoked for DUI on March 11th, 2024. Shrewsbury will be sentenced on April 25th, 2024.
On February 6, 2024, Sgt. L.M. Cook and Deputy H. Walker with the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department were on road patrol when they observed a motor vehicle with a defective brake light. During the traffic stop, the deputies identified the driver as Brett Atnip and observed drug paraphernalia within the vehicle. Atnip indicated that he did not have a valid driver’s license. The subsequent investigation led to the recovery of suspected illegal substances and paraphernalia consistent with drug distribution.
Gregory Bishop is the Wyoming County Prosecutor. “This is yet another example of proactive policework,” said Bishop. “A good police officer is always watchful of suspicious behavior. Illegal activity was thwarted in this case during what would have been an ordinary traffic stop because of our alert police officers.”
Assistant Prosecutor Derek Laxton, Wyoming County, served as lead prosecutor in the case.
Sgt. L.M. Cook and Deputy H. Walker of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department investigated the crime.
