OCEANA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Wyoming County man has been sentenced to prison after admitting to stealing property earlier this year.
According to Wyoming County Prosecuting Attorney Derek Laxton, Virgil Eugene “Hootie” Cline, 46, of Oceana, was sentenced to one to three years in prison following his conviction for attempt to commit a felony on October 22, 2025.
The case stems from a July 21, 2025, investigation by Chief Tyler Dunigon of the Oceana Police Department. Dunigon recovered a weed eater and a leaf blower from beneath the Oceana Library.
Later that day, a victim reported the same items had been stolen from a storage unit in town.
During the investigation, Dunigon learned that Cline had been trying to sell similar equipment. Cline later gave a voluntary statement admitting to taking both items.
Cline has been remanded to the custody of the West Virginia Division of Corrections to serve his prison sentence.
