OCEANA, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A heated domestic dispute in Wyoming County took a dangerous turn Sunday night, April 20th, when a woman allegedly brandished a shotgun, fired a round near children, and threatened to take her own life, according to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department.
Around 9:03 p.m., Sgt. Hedinger was dispatched to a parking lot in Oceana to meet with a concerned individual regarding the incident. The man reported that earlier in the evening, he and Koty Farley had gotten into an argument at her residence. During the altercation, Farley allegedly began yelling, throwing items, and striking him.
In an effort to diffuse the situation, the man left with their two young children. He later returned to the residence to talk with Farley, leaving the children in the vehicle. The argument resumed, and according to his statement, Farley pointed a shotgun at herself, then stepped outside, swung the firearm around, and fired a shot — with the blast reportedly going in the general direction of the vehicle containing the children.
Farley allegedly reentered the home, continued making threats to harm herself, and claimed to have swallowed muscle relaxants. The man said she began hitting him again before he left the property and called 911.
Deputies later located Farley walking along Huff Creek Road. After being read her rights, she admitted to shooting the gun, but stated the shot was aimed toward the woods and denied ingesting pills. She confirmed that she had pointed the shotgun at herself during the incident.
Farley was arrested without incident and transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department for processing. The investigation is ongoing, and the safety of the children remains a primary concern for authorities.
Farley is now charged with a slew of charges.
