Multiple sources confirmed to Lootpress on Thursday evening that future athletic events featuring both Shady Spring and Wyoming East are suspended indefinitely.
The suspension spans across all sports without a timetable for reinstatement.
One source close to the situation informed Lootpress that during the boys basketball game between the two schools on Tuesday at Shady Spring, a derogatory comment – not a slur – was made towards a Wyoming East player from members of the crowd. After a complaint was filed, administrations from both schools agreed to shelve future contests between the two schools indefinitely.
Multiple sources stressed to Lootpress that the suspension was not related to any actions between the two schools on the court this season.
The only possible instance of the two schools meeting would be in postseason play such as sectional or regional tournaments. That scenario would exclude the basketball programs with Shady Spring playing in Class AAA and Wyoming East in Class AA.
There had been bad blood between the two schools dating back to their football game on Oct. 8 when a fight broke out, resulting in the suspension of players from both teams.
