WAREHAM, MA (LOOTPRESS) – A 70-year-old man was killed Friday night when a firework exploded in his face during Fourth of July celebrations in Wareham, Massachusetts.
Emergency crews responded to reports of an individual injured by a firework shortly before 9:30 p.m. at 34 Beach Street.
When officers arrived, they found Robert Spagnuolo, 70, of Wareham, with severe facial injuries.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
Witnesses told investigators that Spagnuolo had been setting off fireworks at the beach when one detonated unexpectedly, striking him directly.
The incident is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police and the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
