Raleigh County has long produced quality softball players.
Several of them are hoping to help and inspire the next generation.
Patti Ward, Kayla Saunders, Kayla Epling, Emily Ward, Alissa Ward, Brittany Meadows and Andrea Roles have teamed up to start the Power Softball Camp – a softball camp for elementary and middle schoolers.
The group is littered with players that have earned all-state honors, played in state championship games and accumulated over 30 years of combined coaching experience.
The camp is a one-day instructional fastpitch softball camp that gives younger players the opportunity to learn from players who have had successful careers in the sport.
The camp will be held on Aug. 7 at the Tom Poe Field at Independence High School and split into two sessions.
The first session begins at 9:30 a.m. and concludes at 1:30 p.m. That session will be for grades 3 through 5 while the second session that runs from 2:30 to 6:30 will be for grades 6 through 8.
The camp will cover every position and skill, including pitching, catching, hitting, fielding and base running.
Those interested in registering can email power.softball@yahoo.com.
Cost of the camp is $40 per student, but each kid that registers early is guaranteed a t-shirt. Registrations will still be accepted the day of but will not be guaranteed a shirt.
