FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – As the West Virginia Primary Election 2026 approaches, candidates across the state are ramping up outreach efforts ahead of a slate of contested races that will determine party nominees for the United States general elections 2026.
Among those campaigning locally is Cy Persinger, a Republican candidate for the West Virginia House of Delegates in the 51st District, who is continuing a listening tour across Fayette County.
Persinger has been attending local events and meetings with community members as he continues a series of listening stops throughout the district.
The effort, he says, is intended to gather input from residents ahead of the primary.
“Before talking about solutions, I believe it’s important to listen,” Persinger said. “Every community in this district has its own concerns and the only way to represent people well is to understand those needs directly from them.”
Since announcing his candidacy in February, Persinger has met with educators, small business owners, community leaders, and workforce representatives.
He says discussions have focused on issues such as economic opportunity, workforce development, infrastructure, rural healthcare, and the future of education in the region.
“I’ve had some very meaningful conversations with people who simply want their voices heard,” he said. “Many feel disconnected from the legislative process and I want to help change that.”
Persinger is among a number of candidates actively campaigning ahead of the May 12 primary, which will feature multiple contested races both locally and statewide.
Winners in the Republican and Democratic primaries will advance to the November general election.
Persinger’s next scheduled public event will be a meet-and-greet at the town gazebo in Ansted on April 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Come on out for some good food, good folks, and good conversation,” Persinger said.
“We’ll have hot dogs, great conversation, and a chance to spend time with friends and neighbors. We’ll also be hosting a non-perishable food drive at that event to support the Ansted Ministerial Food Bank. If you’re able, meet me at the gazebo and please bring a canned food item. I’ll match every donation to help double our impact and support those in need.”
Persinger said he plans to continue meeting with residents and encourages community members to reach out if they would like to share concerns or invite him to visit their business or organization.
Persinger will face off against incumbent Delegate Marshall Clay and businessman Dan Hill in the primary.
As candidates continue to campaign across West Virginia, voter turnout and engagement are expected to play key roles in shaping both local representation and statewide leadership in the months ahead.
