BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia University School of Nursing’s LPN to BSN program has been ranked as the No. 1 program in West Virginia for 2027 by PracticalNursing.org, and the program is now offered at the Beckley Campus, located at WVU Tech.
After seeing the success of the LPN to BSN program at the Keyser Campus, a feasibility study found that a similar program would be beneficial to southern West Virginia as well.
The Beckley Campus is now accepting applications for its first cohort of students.
The Licensed Practical Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (LPN to BSN) is designed to create a direct pathway for LPNs to earn their BSN and enter the registered nursing (RN) profession.
“We are so excited to offer opportunities for growth for LPNs in the area,” said Hillary Parcell, Beckley Campus Chair. “Earning your BSN is an excellent way to grow your career and to provide greater levels of patient care to those in need.”
“Creating flexible pathways for students to become baccalaureate-prepared nurses is important to our mission of improving the health of West Virginians,” said Dr. Tara Hulsey, Dean and E. Jane Martin Endowed Professor. “We’re proud to receive this recognition for this innovative program.”
Courses will be offered afternoons and evenings to accommodate the working LPN’s schedule. Didactic courses are online, while hands-on clinical experiences are in state-of-the-sciences skills and simulations labs and regional healthcare facilities. Students also earn 22 hours of escrow credits for their LPN licensure and professional experience, which translates to more than a semester’s worth of work.
Factors considered in the ranking include graduation and program completion rates; NCLEX-RN first-time pass rates; program accreditation standing; net price after financial aid; and online and hybrid delivery options.
