BECKLEY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Jim Justice and Babydog made their way to Tamarack Tuesday morning to gift a Beckley resident a top-of-the-line zero-turn lawnmower.
Steven Stover of Raleigh County was joined by his wife and daughter in receiving one of the Week 6 prizes.
“When I received the phone call, I told the State Trooper when he called that he had a talk show voice,” Stover laughed. “I thought he was a professional scammer.”
Stover said when the trooper asked if he entered the governor’s vaccine sweepstakes, he knew it was real.
“I immediately said ‘Yes!’ and it was a real hard yes too because I wanted him to know it was me.”
As he sat on his new Bad Boy mower- supplied by Adam’s Power Equipment out of Beckley- Stover said he plans to use the mower immediately, if not just to drive it around his acre-and-a-half yard.
Adam Bailes, owner of the company, said he has supplied all 12 of the sweepstake’s mowers.
“I am really excited to be a part of this,” Bailes shared, adding that it’s a great feeling to see people receive one of his units.
“Several people have already picked them up, and when they come in the shop, they are so excited. They’re coming in, and they’re just happy.”
In addition to the mower, Adam’s Power Equipment is also supplying winners with a six-by-ten single axle, wood floor utility trailer. He is also making himself available to answer any questions about the mower or how it operates.
While enjoying his prize, Stover encouraged his fellow residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
“There’s the virus and the Delta Variant, so it seems like this is going to be the only way to stop it…I don’t want to live with it; I don’t want my children living with it. I don’t think it’s something we want around 20 years from now, so when I have grandchildren, they’re going to have to live with it. Get vaccinated, not because of the drawing but because it’s the right thing to do.”
Before leaving to announce the rest of the week’s prize winners, Gov. Justice wished Stover a future filled with many happy days of mowing.
“I hope you enjoy it,” he said. “The main thing is that I am really proud. The more we get vaccinated the better off we will be.”
