FAIRMONT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Fairmont State University held its inaugural WVSSAC Robotics State Championships on Monday, which featured teams of students from across the state.
The tournament, one of several designed to engage students in STEM activities, featured keynote addresses from several guests including NASA Astronaut Drew Morgan.
Other distinguished guests at the event included Congresswoman Carol Miller, Senator Joe Manchin, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, and NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy.
Three top ranking winners were announced at the conclusion of the tournament. Brooke High School secured third place, Wheeling Park High School nailed down the second place spot, and Parkersburg High School claimed the first place prize.
In addition to the top 3 competition rankings, a number of superlative awards were also given out. These included, the Create Award, which went to Pocahontas County High School, the Programming Award, which went to Riverside High School, the Robot Skills Award, which Wood County Christian School secured along with the Engineering Design Award, and the Build Award, which went to third place winners Brooke High School.
