WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Appalachian Power is preparing for a winter storm expected to impact its three-state service area in the coming days.
The storm is forecast to bring heavy, wet snow, ice, and rain, which could lead to power outages.
Weather Concerns
The company’s Storm Response Team is closely monitoring forecasts, with the biggest concern being ice accumulations of up to 0.50 inches in parts of Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Areas at the highest risk include Kingsport, Tenn.; Christiansburg and Roanoke, Va.; and Charleston, W.Va. Ice accumulation over 0.25 inches can weigh down trees and power lines, increasing the likelihood of outages.
Storm Preparation Efforts
All Appalachian Power crews and contractors are stationed and prepared to respond.
Additionally, the company has requested 600 line mechanics and 100 damage assessors from neighboring utilities to assist with power restoration.
These additional crews are expected to arrive later today and begin work as early as tomorrow morning.
