(LOOTPRESS) – The scenic Autumn Colors Express train that has been taking passengers on excursions from Huntington and Charleston to Hinton for six decades will be making its way through the New River Gorge this week.
This year, the Autumn Colors Express will depart on October, 20, 21, 22, & 23.
The Autumn Colors Express is conveniently scheduled to coincide with the Hinton Railroad Days festival that is also taking place this week October 20th through the 23rd.
Hinton Railroad Days is an annual multi-day festival in Summers County that features live music, vendors, food, and of course trains!
The excursion route follows the old Chesapeake & Ohio route along the New River & Kanawha River resulting in over 50 miles of scenic views. The Autumn Colors Express is pulled by Amtrak and is comprised of privately-owned vintage rail cars from different areas in the United States.
Some notable sights along the route include Kanawha Falls, Hawk’s Nest Dam, New River Gorge Bridge, Thurmond, and Sandstone Falls.

Depart Huntington, WV – 8 AM
Depart Charleston, WV – 9:30 AM
Arrive at Hinton, WV – 12:01 PM
Layover at Hinton Railroad Days Festival – 12:01-3 PM
Depart Hinton, WV – 3 PM
Arrive Charleston, WV – 5:45 PM
Arrive in Huntington, WV – 7 PM
Tickets for the excursion must have been purchased ahead of the event and no tickets are currently being sold according to the Autumn Colors Express website.
