FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Former educator and administrator Barry Crist has secured the Republican nomination for Fayette County Commission following Tuesday’s Primary Election.
According to unofficial election results, Crist received 1,155 votes, or 45.0% of the vote, defeating Christopher Burford, who received 942 votes (36.7%), and Teresa Pullen Dorsey, who finished with 468 votes (18.2%).
Crist, a longtime Fayette County educator and administrator, announced his candidacy earlier this year after a career spanning more than three decades in the Fayette County School system.
Crist began his career in education in 1986 as a teacher and later served 24 years as an administrator. He retired in 2018 while serving as Coordinator of Career and Technical Programs for Fayette County Schools and administrator of Fayette Institute of Technology.
During his tenure at Fayette Institute of Technology, the school earned recognition as one of the top career and technical centers in West Virginia and received multiple honors, including Blue Ribbon School of Excellence designations.
Following his retirement, Crist launched an educational consulting business serving clients across West Virginia. He also serves on the governing boards of Rainelle Medical Center and BridgeValley Community and Technical College.
Throughout his campaign, Crist emphasized transparency, fiscal responsibility, support for first responders, infrastructure improvements, and what he described as “common sense leadership” for Fayette County.
No Democrat filed to run for the Fayette County Commission seat, meaning Crist will be unopposed in the November General Election.
