FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an active shooter incident that occurred on Wolf Creek Road in Fayetteville, according to Sheriff Jess McMullen.
Deputies were dispatched after reports of a man armed with a handgun inside a local business while employees and customers were present, the sheriff’s department said.
Responding deputies and officers secured the area and worked to safely evacuate those inside the business. Assistance was provided by the Fayetteville Police Department, Oak Hill Police Departmentand West Virginia State Police.
Authorities said the suspect, 32-year-old David Johnson of Fayetteville, was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported.
Officials said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Sheriff McMullen thanked the assisting agencies for their rapid response and professionalism, saying their efforts helped bring the situation to a safe conclusion.
