BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The annual Veterans Day parade will make its way through Beckley next month as part of a Veterans Day Celebration entailing several upcoming events.
Hosted by the American Legion Post 32 and the Beckley-Raleigh County Veterans Parade Committee, the Beckley Veterans Day Parade is scheduled for Monday, November 11, 2024, and is set to begin at 11:00am. Frank Henderson will serve as Grand Marshal for the parade.
Lineup for the parade will take place at Park Middle School between 9:00am and 10:30am for floats and vehicles, and from 10:00am to 10:30am at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza for band, walking units, and military vehicle participants.
The parade will also feature a Memory Walk and Honor section which will honor loved ones, and in which loved ones will be invited to participate by walking while holding a photo, memento or sign in the parade. These participants will line up with band, walking, and military vehicle units at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway.
The 2024 Beckley Veterans Day Celebration Parade theme will by “Duty – Honor – Country” as selected by the American Legion Post 32. Designers working on floats for the event should place signs identifying their group on each side of the float.
First, Second, and Third place winners will be selected for best overall entries with selected winners being presented with cash and trophy awards. The top high school and middle school bands will also be chosen, and awards will be presented at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza upon conclusion of the parade.
Veterans groups are welcome to set up booths at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza or at Work Park between 10:00am and 1:00pm. Those wishing to set up may arrange to do so by reaching out to (304) 256-1776.
Multiple school marching band units will be performing following the parade at the Intermodal Gateway Plaza between 12:00pm and 1:00pn. Veterans have also been invited to partake in a free box lunch at the WVU Tech Administration, Extension and Culinary Building located on Neville Street after the parade while supplies last.
