GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities are investigating after a man was found dead in the Greenbrier River on Wednesday evening.
According to the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 6 p.m. to a report of a deceased person in the river, about a quarter mile south of where Second Creek flows into the Greenbrier River.
Deputies and members of the Ronceverte Volunteer Fire Department recovered the body, which was identified as 43-year-old Shawn Carter of Union, Monroe County.
A vehicle belonging to Carter was found nearby.
The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team processed the area, and investigators say no foul play is suspected at this time.
The case remains under investigation, with Sgt. M.T. Doss leading the inquiry.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Ronceverte Police Department, Ronceverte Volunteer Fire Department, Alderson EMS, and the West Virginia State Police.
