WHEELING, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Wheeling campus of West Virginia Northern Community Campus was evacuated on Wednesday after an unconfirmed bomb threat.
According to the Wheeling Police Department, authorities set out to investigate an unconfirmed bomb threat downtown at WVNCC on Wednesday.
The building was evacuated as a result of the threat, and roadway access in the 16th & Chapline Streets was limited. The K9 explosive unit was also brought in for the detection of any bomb threat.
A 3:20pm update confirmed that, following an extensive search of the building, as well as the outside area, the bomb threat was unfounded. All roadways were reopened as a result.
The threat could very well be part of a series of falsified threats being made to campuses throughout the state, as this report follows that of a bomb threat made earlier this month at the downtown campus of West Virginia University – more on that here – which resulted in the precautionary closure of several buildings.
K9 units detected no devices, and downtown campus buildings reopened on Wednesday, July 6.
“We believe the bomb threat against WVU is part of a series of such hoax calls made to other campuses,” said University Police Department Chief Sherry St. Clair.
