(Salt Rock, WV) Bloomingdale Baptist (5-3) lost at home to Calvary Baptist Academy (4-4) Monday night 51-45. It was a close back and forth game where both teams relied on their defense to manage the low scoring game.
Both teams struggled to figure things out offensively in the first quarter– scoring just 6 points apiece. In the second quarter, The Bloom started getting the ball inside to their 6’4″ Senior Sutton Roten. Despite making several mistakes against the Patriot’s aggressive man to man defense, they were able to take advantage of Roten’s size just enough to take a 6 point lead into the locker room.
In the second half, the Patriots made some adjustments on offense and put up 21 points in the 3rd quarter to tie the game at 34. The Bloom kept it close in the 4th, but Calvary made some tough shots to pull out a 6 point victory.
The Patriots were led by Matthew DeGroff (Jr., F), who finished with 21 points and seemed to get every rebound. Dallas Johnson (Jr., G) also contributed 13 points including a couple of key threes in the second half.
As previously mentioned, The Bloom leaned heavily on Sutton Roten in the low post, who finished with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Dorian Reese (Jr., G) helped control the pace with 8 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals.
The Bloom will play their final game before the Christmas break on Thursday night at Cross Lanes Christian at 7:30. The Patriots have another game tonight at Charleston Catholic at 7:00. All Bloomingdale games are livestreamed on their Facebook page. You can find more stats and scores on MaxPreps.
