The Lootpress Player of the Week Award, sponsored by Bodyworks and The Law Offices of Brandon Steele, has returned for softball and baseball season.
Below are the candidates for the fifth week of the season. Voting will close Monday at midnight. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie.
In order for a player to be eligible or nominated, the stat keeper or coach must report all scores throughout the week, WIN OR LOSE. Scores can be reported to Tylerjackson@lootpress.com and Rustyudy@lootpress.com. Doing so is simple. All you need to do is take a picture of the official scorebook for both teams, or a screenshot of the gamechanger box and send it to us.
Teams reporting scores this week: Independence, Wyoming East, Greenbrier East, Beckley, Shady Spring, Liberty, Bluefield and Greenbrier West.
- Carson Brown, Independence – Brown hit .444 across three games this week, driving in a run as well. As a pitcher he pitched an inning, recording the Patriots’ lone win of the week.
- Tanner Whitten, Wyoming East – Whitten helped East sweep a doubleheader against Summers County, batting .600, driving in three runs and scoring three runs. As a pitcher he threw for 1.2 innings, striking out four.
- Cam Manns, Shady Spring – Manns played a huge role in the Tigers going a perfect 4-0 this past week. In two appearances he threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball, striking out 15 of the 18 batters he faced. He allowed just two hits.
- Bryson Redmond, Bluefield – Redmond was hot at the plate for the Beavers this week. he went 6-for-8 across two games, driving in two runs as Bluefield went 1-1 this past week.
- Jayden McClain, Oak Hill – In a key sectional matchup with Beckley, McClain pitched a gem going the distance and striking out nine in a 6-1 win over the Flying Eagles. He also went 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run in the win.
- Chris Heaster, Greenbrier East – Heaster swung one of the hottest bats in the area this past week, going 6-for-11 at the plate and driving in four runs as the Spartans picked up a key sectional win over Oak Hill and a huge regional win over George Washington.
- Chase McClung, Greenbrier West – McClung opened the week with a 4-for-4 showing against Liberty, driving in six runs in a win. In a narrow loss to Moorefield he was stellar as well, collecting two more hits.
- Logan Williams, Beckley – Williams had a standout performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, driving in three runs. He also pitched a complete game against regional foe St. Albans, allowing just two hits and striking out six. The Flying Eagles won 4-1.
