The Lootpress Player of the Week Award sponsored by Mid-State Ford, Bodyworks and The Law Offices of Brandon Steele, has returned for the second year.
Below are the candidates for the ninth week of the prep football season. Voting will close Monday at 11:59 P.M. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie. There are also changes to the Player of the Week voting pertaining to the top overall vote getter that you can read about here.
In order for a player to be eligible or nominated, the stat keeper or coach must report all scores and statistics. Scores can be reported to Tylerjackson@lootpress.com and Rustyudy@lootpress.com.
Here are your candidates
- Grant Cochran, Princeton – Cochran was 16 of 26 passing for 188 yards and three touchdowns as Princeton went on the road and beat No. 5 Bridgeport Friday. Cochran also rushed for 68 yards, with a 59-yard run setting up Brodee Rice’s 14-yard touchdown run that gave the Tigers the lead for good.
- Trey Bowers, Independence – Bowers was 4 of 5 passing, collecting 175 yards and three touchdowns through the air. He also added 53 rushing yards as the Patriots flexed their muscles in a win over Nicholas County.
- Caleb Fuller, Bluefield – Fuller threw for 145 yards Friday night against Oak Hill, collecting two rushing touchdowns on seven attempts as the Beavers beat Oak Hill 34-14.
- Ty Nickell, Greenbrier West – Nickell rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown while also returning a blocked punt 34 yards for a score on special teams.
- Cooper Ridgeway, James Monroe – Ridgeway was a weapon on the ground and through the air, rushing for 145 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries while also hauling in a 17-yard touchdown pass in James Monroe’s 49-6 win a Liberty.
- Austin Shrewsbury, PikeView – Shrewsbury turned his 10 carries into 140 yards and two scores as the Panthers picked up a 60-32 win over Wyoming East Friday.
- Tyson Adkins, Summers County – Adkins carried the ball 11 times for 103 yards Friday as Summers County beat Pocahontas County 27-21 to extend the Bobcats’ winning streak to three games!
