SHADY SPRING, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Community members and staff members with Children’s Home Society gathered on Tuesday to break ground on the new Matthew Pack Children’s Home.
The Raleigh County facility, located at 2451 Ritter Drive in the Shady Spring area, will offer an emergency shelter for children with exceptionalities.
Planning for the facility dates back several years, with the implementation of the idea having been hindered due the national shift brought about by the COVID pandemic.
Nonetheless, with a plan in place, along with a capital campaign and a committee committed to the execution of said plan, the Matthew Pack Children’s Home took its first tangible steps toward becoming a reality this week when ground was broken at the Ritter Drive location.
Children’s Home Society of West Virginia, Chief Executive Officer, Mary White was on-hand Tuesday to discuss the origins of the facility.
“We’re so very thankful for each one of you that could be here with us. I just want to take a moment to talk about how we got here,” said White during the groundbreaking ceremony. “We started a capital campaign prior to COVID, and we put together a committee. Then COVID happened and we couldn’t do anything. As soon as COVID was over, we started working on it again. So, I just want to recognize our folks on our capital campaign committee.”
