NITRO, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Crews responded to a fire at a West Virginia apartment complex early this morning, with smoking in bed suspected to be the cause of the blaze.
According to the Nitro Fire Department, Nitro Ladder 861 Chief 801 and PIO 840 provided mutual aid on a structure fire at Cross Lanes Unity Apartments in Kanawha County.
The call came in at 4:30 AM, and the building’s sprinkler system extinguished the blaze averting major damage and containing the blaze to one room.
While all 27 occupants had to be evacuated, there were no injuries reported and the majority of the residents were allowed back in within an hour.
Officials believe the fire was caused by smoking in bed. Big Tyler Road was closed for approximately 45 minutes.
