MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Mercer County Economic Mobility Leadership Network event conducted its second day of activity on Monday, the first full day since it began Sunday evening.
The convening of Economic Mobility Leadership members saw leaders touching down from parts of the country as far away as Santa Cruz County, Arizona and Hennepin County, Minnesota, and as close by as Loudoun County, Virginia and Franklin County, Ohio.
Day 2 of the Economic Mobility Leadership Network event allowed participants to experience firsthand what Mercer County has to offer.
A morning departure for Bramwell saw en route discussion on challenges faced by residents in rural areas such as Mercer County regarding transportation. Bluefield Area Transit General Manager, John Reeves was key in this exchange.
Next on the journey was one of West Virginia’s prime assets, the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System, where a presentation was conducted by Hatfield-McCoy Regional Recreation Authority Executive Director, Jeff Lusk.
The group took a break for lunch at the Bramwell Corner Shop & Soda Fountain, a local eatery which allows patrons to conduct a brief, albeit satisfying, exploration of the past with vintage selections such as gooseneck soda. Participants were then given the choice to partake in an ATV tour or a Historic Bramwell Home – “Home of Millionaires” – tour.
Bluefield Arts Center was the next stop, and a presentation on Bluefield Small Business Supports, Downtown Investments, and partnership with software company Intuit was provided by Intuit’s own Erin Moos and Bluefield West Virginia Economic Development Authority Executive Director Jim Spencer.
Continuing the exploration of Intuit and its relationship with the area, Intuit/Alorica Senior Site Director, John Miller, led the group on a tour of Intuit Bluefield.
A dinner presentation at the Granada Theater was the final event of the evening, and featured a keynote speech by Berea College President, Dr. Lyle Roelofs, as well as entertainment by Allen Smith and Co.
Tuesday will see event participants further exploring all that Mercer County and West Virginia have to offer through a variety of tours, presentations, and other activities.
