BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Raleigh County Delegate and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Todd Kirby has officially filed to run for a seat on the Raleigh County Circuit Court.
Kirby officially filed to run today at the Secretary of State’s Office in Charleston. He will be on the ballot vying for the seat on the 14th Judicial Circuit in District 3.
“After lots of praying and many discussions with my wife, my colleagues and my closest friends today I officially filed to seek election to the bench of the 14th Circuit, District 3,” Kirby said.
“It would be an honor of a lifetime to be chosen by the voters to serve as a judge in the county where I was born and raised and where I want my two young children to call their home for many years to come.”
Kirby was elected to the House of Delegates in 2022. He says the decision to not seek re-election to the House was not an easy one.
“The decision to not seek reelection to the House of Delegates and file to run for Circuit Court Judge in Raleigh County was not a decision that I took lightly,” Kirby stated. “While I have enjoyed being on the front lines of some major legislative victories for the people of this state I felt that I could better serve the people of my home county as a Circuit Court Judge.”
Kirby says that his experience as a lawyer and assistant prosecutor have prepared him for this position.
“The majority of my legal career has been focused on abuse and neglect cases and I have a great passion for these cases. Over the years I have represented foster families, grandparents, children and parents in this area of the law,” Kirby explained.
“And currently I serve an assistant prosecutor handling abuse and neglect cases in Raleigh County. In addition to my experience with abuse and neglect cases, I have handled virtually every type of legal case as an attorney and have had the opportunity to work with great attorneys and judges in this county and throughout Southern West Virginia.”
Kirby pledges to be fair in each case put before him.
“If elected I will ensure that the U.S. and State Constitutions are followed and that the laws of this state are applied accurately in every case.”
Circuit Judge elections are non-partisan and they serve eight-year terms.
West Virginia’s 2024 Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
