WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – In a disturbing case of alleged child neglect and abuse, authorities have charged Baretta Tolliver of Kopperston, Wyoming County, with Child Neglect Creating a Risk of Injury following a forensic interview conducted at Stop The Hurt in Pineville on Friday, April 11, 2025.
According to Sergeant Tyler Sizemore, who observed the interview, a 16-year-old male juvenile disclosed multiple instances of abuse while under Tolliver’s care. The teen reported being regularly deprived of food and water, sometimes going up to four days without meals, and being required to ask permission before accessing basic necessities.
The investigation revealed additional concerning allegations, including claims that Tolliver and another adult caretaker provided the minor with vape devices and cigarettes, contributing to addiction issues. The juvenile also stated that his prescribed ADHD medication was allegedly taken and sold by his guardians to support their own drug habits.
During the interview, the teen disclosed inappropriate sexual comments and contact from another adult in the household while Tolliver was hospitalized. Furthermore, the juvenile admitted to previously lying to Child Protective Services workers at Tolliver’s direction.
When asked about his current living situation after being removed from Tolliver’s home, the teen poignantly remarked, “I don’t have to ask for food anymore.”
Wyoming County CPS representatives were present during the forensic interview. Tolliver has been charged under West Virginia State Code 61-8D-4(c).
