SAINT ALBANS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Deputy Morris of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office has been credited with life-saving measures taken in the wake of Tuesday’s shooting in the Cousins Drive area of Kanawha County.
In a situation update provided Wednesday by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, it was reported that the victim of the shooting incident on Tuesday remains in the critical care unit at CAMC General, but is in stable condition.
Furthermore, the Sheriff’s Office revealed that the victim sustained a life-threatening injury as a result of the shooting, the bullet from which severed the femoral artery in the left leg of the victim.
This resulted in “substantial blood loss nearly resulting in death.” Medical professionals informed investigators that Kanawha County Deputy Morris’ application of a tourniquet to the leg of the victim not only likely saved the victim from passing away prior to arrival at the hospital, but also likely saved the victim’s leg from amputation.
“Sheriff Mike Rutherford and Chief Deputy Joe Crawford were happy to hear of the life-saving measures taken by Deputy Morris and they commend him for his noble actions and quick thinking during the chaos of a shooting call such as this,” read a statement from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
“All deputies at Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office are provided with tourniquets to wear on their duty belts and they are trained in the application of them, should they ever become the victim of a shooting incident,” continued the statement.
“Deputy Morris’s selfless act of taking his own tourniquet to save another person’s life, truly shows that we have the best and most amazing deputies serving our citizens of Kanawha County.”
Reports indicate that the individual responsible for the shooting still has yet to be identified by Detective B.S. Middleton, the lead investigator in the case.
Those in the Cousins Drive area with pertinent information or applicable video footage in relation to the incident have been urged to contact that Sheriff’s Office. The suspect is has been described as a white male who was wearing a black shirt when observed fleeing the scene of the crime.
