PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Further disruptions were avoided along U.S. Route 460 after the East River Volunteer Fire Department stepped in and quickly guided traffic away from utility lines that obstructed the entire highway.
According to the East River VFD, Saturday afternoon around 3:20 PM the ERVFD was dispatched to a report of a power line down across 460 near the Chilis restaurant. Brush
A unit responded along with several members in their personal vehicles. As a unit was arriving on scene, a box truck came through and caught the phone lines and broke the pole in half completely. It then left all of U.S. 460 impassable.
Without the skip of a beat ERVFD members jumped into action assessing the situation and coming up with a traffic control solution. With the help of Mercer county 911 calling in more resources and ensuring the VFD had enough help, a few minutes later ERVFD members along with Mercer county sheriff’s office, and WVDOH began the process of getting backed up traffic flowing.
All personnel remained on scene for over 2 hours in the rainy weather to ensure traffic flowed smoothly.
“A huge thanks to our amazing dispatchers at 911, and our awesome county deputies that helped in the pouring rain! We couldn’t have done it without you all! The fighting 105 remain ready whenever our community needs us,” the East River VFD stated in a post on their Facebook page.
