VALLEY HEAD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An elderly West Virginia man is dead after drowning in his basement.
According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on January 10, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Valley Head to assist the Valley Head Fire Department and Randolph County EMS.
The call was for an individual who had drowned in his basement.
The victim, a 69-year-old male, went into the basement on January 9, 2024, at around 7:30 pm.
The man was going into the basement to check on the sump pump. The following morning the victim’s body was discovered, in the water, by his wife.
The water in the basement had to be pumped out to retrieve the body.
There were no signs of foul play, the incident remains under investigation.
The victim’s body will be sent to the medical examiner’s office in Charleston for an autopsy.
