Fairmont State celebrates successful United Way campaign

FAIRMONT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – “Fairmont State University has raised over $29,074 through the annual United Way Campaign, which wrapped up last month. This amount surpasses the $25,000 goal set for campus and is the second-largest campaign in Fairmont State’s 43-year campaign history.

‘United Way is working to build a stronger community through quality education, stable income, and better health for everyone,’ said President Michael Davis. ‘I’m so thankful to every individual, department and student that helped make our campaign a tremendous success.’

Since 2000, the University has given the United Way over half a million dollars through the annual campaign.

Various administrators, staff members and students celebrated the campaign’s achievements on Jan. 18 at the Falcon Center. A check was presented to the United Way during the event and recognized the campaign theme this year again, ‘Here for Good.’

‘We are excited to meet our campaign goal this year,’ said Director of Career Services and Civic Engagement at Fairmont State Susan Rodriguez. ‘This speaks volumes to the dedication and importance of faculty, staff and students to meet the needs of our community! Fairmont State University succeeds when our community succeeds. Working together, we can make the future even brighter for all our neighbors.’

Through the help of 35 volunteer team captains, Fairmont State had a record outreach program and number of fundraisers throughout campus. More than 64 University employees donated to the campaign.

‘Fairmont State University’s commitment to our community is unwavering,” said Brett White, Tygart Valley United Way CEO. “This campaign’s success is a testament to the generosity of the faculty, staff and students.’

All contributions for Fairmont State’s United Way campaign stay local, as the money raised helps support 42 unique programs at 30 health and human service agencies. The staff and volunteers of those agencies work tirelessly to address issues associated with lower incomes, illness, illiteracy, domestic violence, homelessness and affordable childcare across the Tygart Valley. The agencies, however, do not have the resources to carry out elaborate fundraising campaigns of their own and rely heavily on additional funding.

The entire campaign’s goal is $630,000. Fairmont State is one of the largest contributors to the Tygart Valley United Way.

‘At Fairmont State University, we understand the importance of living united,” added Davis. “This campaign’s success exemplifies that.’”
