FAIRMONT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The No. 7 seed Fairmont State Falcons Acrobatics & Tumbling team’s stunning season has finally been brought to its conclusion with a Thursday evening loss to the No. 2 seed Azusa Pacific Cougars.
Coming on the heels of a three-peat series of wins as Mountain East Conference Champions, the team entered the competition with high hopes, an outlook reinforced by their impressive 9-1 record.
While the matchup remained tightly contested throughout the duration of the event, Azusa Pacific managed to maintain a lead for much of the event, closing out the first half of the competition with a 96.400 – 92.725 lead. The Cougars ultimately finished out the event with a 171.540 – 164.430 advantage.
Fairmont State University sophomore and Falcons member Reghan Mollahan conveyed the significant impact the local community and Fairmont student body have had on the team’s illustrious season,
“The community of Fairmont has been nothing but supportive to our team throughout our season,” said Mollahan,
“Other teams at the school have also shown up to help support us at our meets.”
The Falcons team was made up this season of Taylor Openlander, Avery Keller, Hannah Sadler, Chloe Smith, Peyton Barnes, Alexis Smith, Oliva Daniels, Zara Christophe, Annie Lease, Izaria McWhorter-Martin, Hope Kiszka, Priscilla Richmond, Ansley Froman, Rylee Vinson, Brylee Knotts, Janai Jenkins, Savanna Mullins, Magdalene Gigliotti, Elizabeth Maurer, Madeline Walker, Natalie Moore, Eliah Cardone, Brionni Dowson, Emily Brock, Sophia Del Greco, Kathryn Koehl, and Reghan Mollohan, as well as head coach Danielle Cutri and assistance coach Haley Cochran.
Azusa Pacific will move on to compete in the semifinals of the NCATA National Championships, where they will face off with the No. 3 ranked seed, the Gannon University Golden Knights.
