FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Fayette County Board of Education is set to vote on a proposed calendar for the 2025-2026 school year at its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 8.
If approved, the calendar will be sent to the West Virginia Department of Education for final approval.
The draft calendar outlines key dates for students, faculty, and staff.
For faculty, the school year is scheduled to begin on August 11 with faculty preparation and curriculum development, followed by the first day of school for students on August 14.
The first semester will run through December 19, concluding with 85 instructional days, while the second semester will begin January 5 and end on May 28, totaling 95 days.
Holidays and breaks include Labor Day on September 1, Thanksgiving break from November 27-28, and a winter break from December 23-31.
The calendar also designates professional learning days, teacher workdays, and out-of-calendar days when schools will be closed.

Additionally, students will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 19 and Memorial Day on May 25.
The last day for students is set for May 28, with outside school environment days running through early June to allow for any necessary schedule adjustments.
If approved by board members, the calendar will be forwarded to the state Department of Education for final confirmation before implementation.
