FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Fayette County Humane Society is facing a critical overcrowding crisis after taking in nine additional dogs in just two days, pushing the shelter beyond capacity.
To manage the overflow, staff have resorted to housing dogs in crates in hallways and keeping them in outdoor runs full-time—conditions far from ideal for the animals in need.
“These dogs aren not just numbers,” the organization stated in a Facebook post. “They deserve soft beds, warm laps, and the chance to be part of a family.”
To encourage adoptions and ease the strain, the Humane Society has reduced adoption fees to just $35 for dogs over six months old.
The special rate is available now through April 12.
“If you have ever considered adopting, now is the time,” the shelter urged. “Every adoption makes room for another life in need.”
Those interested in adopting can browse available dogs on the Adoptable Dogs of FCHS page or visit the shelter’s AdoptAPet profile.
Even those who can’t adopt can help by spreading the word, the shelter says.
