FAYETTE COUNTY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – During Thursday’s meeting, Fayette County Commissioner Allison Taylor announced that Ruth Lanier has been chosen to fill the County Administrator vacancy left by former administrator, Deborah Berry.
Berry recently announced her retirement after being in the position for nearly four decades.
According to Taylor, the commission received 10 resumes for the position and, after reviewing those resumes, felt that they did not need to conduct interviews based on the qualifications of the individuals who applied.
“We had three candidates that we were strong,” Taylor said during the meeting. “Of the three, we found one candidate that had HR, financial, and accounting experience throughout her career… Based on the review, Ruth Lanier is the best choice for County Administrator.”
Lootpress was able to speak with Commissioner Tom Louisos, who shared his thoughts on Lanier.
“I think she is excellent for the position,” he said. “She is the one that should have it. Anything I need to ask of her, any questions I have, she will find them and have the answer. She is the best person for the job.”
Lanier has worked as a staff accountant for the last three years but says she has 14 years of human resource and accounting experience. She has an MBA in accounting, a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health.
Lanier shared that her position becomes effective next Tuesday and that she is excited to get to work.
“I think we have a lot of opportunities to make things better in the county. I will just do my best to help the commissioners move things forward.”
According to Lanier, her main duties will include managing the courthouse, handling employee issues, and handling accounts.
A staff accountant position will be posted to fill Lanier’s place once she steps into her new role.
