SALISBURY, NC (LOOTPRESS) – Food Lion has announced that the company is donating $1.5 million to support the communities affected by Hurricane Helene.
Food Lion has invited customers to join the relief efforts by donating at the register throughout the month of October. The funds will be distributed to partner feeding organizations by the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation for rebuilding efforts.
The $1.5 million contribution, in part, will entail funds directed to an emergency donation to the American Red Cross. This will offer resources such as shelter, food, comfort, and relief supplies to those impacted by the recent devastation.
Food Lion will also be collaborating with partners on the local level such as response teams, government agencies, and hospitals to provide water, gift cards, snacks, nonperishable supplies, and other resources to local shelters and emergency support service regions.
“Caring for our neighbors and the towns and cities we serve is an integral part of our Food Lion culture,” said Food Lion President, Meg Ham. “Our hearts go out to those devastated by Hurricane Helene, and we want our neighbors and communities to know they can count on Food Lion, especially those who need us most during this time. By joining forces with our customers, we are reminded of the strength and resiliency of our communities to come together to support those impacted by the effects of the storm.”
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation was first established in 2001 and works to offer financial support toward programs and organizations which are committed to eliminating hunger. Annually, the foundation awards over $1 million in grant funding which serves to benefit hundreds of local feeding partner organizations.
