WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Food Lion has launched its annual Orange Bag campaign, aiming to provide meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity, including in West Virginia.
The initiative, which runs from Feb. 26 through March 18, allows customers to contribute by purchasing specially marked orange bags in stores or online.
For each bag sold, five meals will be donated to local hunger-relief organizations.
The campaign benefits Feeding America and local food banks throughout Food Lion’s 10-state region, including those serving West Virginia communities.
Customers can also support the effort by donating cash at checkout or rounding up their purchases.
“Our neighbors deserve access to nutritious foods,” said Kevin Durkee, Manager of Food Lion Feeds. “When customers purchase a bag of oranges, they help nourish individuals and families in their community who are experiencing hunger.”
Since its launch in 2019, the Orange Bag campaign has provided more than 25.8 million meals through bag sales and cash donations.
This year, Food Lion Feeds has committed to donating at least 2 million meals through the program.
In addition to the Orange Bag campaign, Food Lion Feeds supports hunger relief through other initiatives, including Score to Give More, which donates meals based on free throws made during college basketball games.
Food Lion operates stores throughout West Virginia and the surrounding region, making the campaign an opportunity for local residents to support their communities.
