SUMMERS COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A former Mount Hope Police chief and Beckley firefighter was sentenced today on sexual abuse charges.
According to Prosecuting Attorney Kristin Cook, Thomas Ray Peal was convicted on four counts of third-degree sexual abuse. Each count of third-degree sexual abuse has a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail.
Judge Robert Irons suspended three out of the four sexual abuse counts. Peal will serve 90 days in jail on one count of sexual abuse, then be placed on probation for seven years. Peal will also have to register as a sex offender.
Thomas Ray Peal was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, for sexual intercourse with a teenager. According to a criminal complaint, the alleged incident occurred between November 17, 2017, and November 26, 2017, in Summers County.
