BECKLEY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – More than four years ago, the fountain along Leslie C. Gates experienced electrical problems and stopped working.
While the rocks were beautiful on their own, something was missing: water.
In addition to their many summer projects, employees with the Beckley Public Works Department, Matt Linsley and James Thompson, spent months fixing the façade of the restrooms at Word Park and then continued their efforts around to the waterfall.
The City of Beckley shared last week that the fountain was up and running once again.
“Thanks to the efforts of Matt and James, that area of Word Park looks great, and the working waterfall is now a refreshing sight and provides soothing sounds to that area of town,” shared the city.
Mayor Rob Rappold also shared his appreciation to the pair of employees for their work restoring the waterfall.
“Cities truly benefit from fountains,” he said. “They benefit the landscape, provide opportunities for relaxation and act as public works of art that enhance the quality of life.”
With the completion of the project, Beckley now has four functioning fountains.
