MOUNT HOPE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Appalachian Bible College announces the senior music recital of Hannah Taylor and Angela Wegner on Friday, February 24, at 7:00 PM. The recital is given to fulfill requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Bible/Theology and Music.
Both Taylor and Wegner are piano principals in the studio of Melissa Yowell. It’s not the only thing they have in common. Growing up in the South Hampton Roads region of Virginia, the two have known each other since childhood, attending the same church and even sharing a piano teacher.
“Getting to attend the same college together, take the same classes, and watch each other grow in our musical abilities has been such a neat experience,” reflects Wegner. She adds that they will also be spending the summer together after graduating in May, traveling with the College’s music ministry team called the Gospel Heralds.
And after that? Taylor says, “My main goal in life is to help people know God better and to experience the joy and peace of a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ that I have known. After the summer, I hope to visit some missionaries overseas to find a place where I can help serve effectively in church-planting or revitalizing efforts more permanently. I have a special burden for places without access to the Bible who have never heard God’s good news of forgiveness before.”
Wegner, on the other hand, plans to stick around Beckley. “This fall, I will be teaching at Kids of Harmony Preschool in Beaver, and continuing to serve in my local church.”
At their recital, the women will perform pieces from each of the four musical time periods as well as sacred hymn arrangements, compositions of their own, and a two-piano duet.
“One of my favorite pieces to play has been ‘Great is Thy Faithfulness’ arranged by John Nordquist,” says Wegner. “It’s one of my favorite hymns, and this particular arrangement retains a calm, flowing feel and paints the lyrics well.”
Taylor expresses her desire for the audience: “That each person who comes to our recital would gain a new or deepened appreciation for God’s gift of music, and that through our songs their hearts would be inspired to worship Him.”
The public is invited to the free recital in Anderson Hall, which will be followed by a reception.
As West Virginia’s only accredited Bible College, Appalachian Bible College has been training men and women to serve in church-related ministries since 1950. ABC offers Bible Certificates, Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, and Master of Arts programs, including online courses. The campus is located just north of Beckley, while an additional location serves inmates within Mount Olive Correctional Complex.
