LAVISTA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Justice will visit the Lavista community to survey the damage caused by Tuesday’s EF2 tornado.
According to Gov. Justice’s office, he will survey the damage caused by the tornado in Lavista on Monday afternoon.
The governor will make the stop following an event a Babcock State Park in Clifftop.
Gov. Justice last Tuesday declared a State of Emergency for Fayette, Kanawha, Lincoln, and Nicholas counties, after severe thunderstorms caused flooding, downed trees, power outages, and road blockages.
The State of Emergency was amended on Thursday to include Barbour, Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Ohio, Wetzel, and Wood counties because of flooding and ongoing storm-related threats.
The EF2 tornado in Lavista was the first tornado in this part of Fayette County, and the fourth in the history of the county.
The path of the tornado was 1.18 miles in length, 300 yards wide, and produced winds of 130 MPH.
A total of nine tornados have been confirmed in Tuesday’s outbreak in the NWS Charleston coverage area, outnumbering the previous record of 6 during the 1974 outbreak.
