MONTGOMERY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Jim Justice made his way to Fayette County on Wednesday to sign Senate Bill 1038, providing millions of dollars to the West Virginia National Guard for use at the academy.
The visit follows a Tuesday event which saw the Governor stop by Point Pleasant Fire Department for the signing of three Senate Bills following the recently concluded Special Session of the WV Legislature which saw an emphasis on supplemental appropriations.
Tuesday’s signing event saw $12 million in funding secured for volunteer fire departments throughout the State of West Virginia, while Wednesday morning’s signing of 1038 would provide $3 million to Mountaineer Challenge Academy.
“I congratulate these incredible young men and women… I congratulate our National Guard,” said Governor Justice on Wednesday. “Step back from it and just think [about] what our National Guard does, and they do it every day. I absolutely just salute them over and over. I can never thank them enough. I’m really proud we’re going to sign some bills here, they’re basically going to pump 3-plus-million into here and it’ll make it better in lots of different ways.”
Senate Bill 1038 was filed for introduction and saw first reading on August 6, 2023, and saw passage through the Legislature on August 8, 2023.
