CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Mountain State indie rock outfit Hello June are back with a brand new single “Interstate,” ahead of their upcoming sophomore album to be released later this year.
Infused with driving rhythms, colorful textures, and poignant subject matter, “Interstate” will be the world’s first glimpse at Hello June’s upcoming second album Artifacts, the band’s first since their self-titled debut, released in 2018.
Immediately evident upon first listen is singer/guitarist Sarah Rudy’s effacable knack for ear worm hooks – a notion with which those privy to the work of the band should be plenty familiar by this point.
But the emotional layers inherent within the newly released single are palpable, and it’s a notable indicator of artistic intent that a number featuring such weighty personal explorations would be chosen to serve as the introduction to the band’s upcoming full-length project.
Taking a cue from BBC series Doctor Who, the output of Hello June has a tendency to offer up much more than initially meets the eye – or ear, rather – rewarding repeat listens through the gradual unveiling of contextual nuance. “Interstate” serves as a prime example of this paradox, managing to pack fully-formed worlds into a digestible, three-minute slice of indie pop/rock goodness.
“Interstate” is just one of many of the band’s newly completed tunes to traverse complex conceptual territory, however. Recorded in Nashville, TN with producer Roger Alan Nichols, Artifacts puts an exploratory spin on the group’s established sound, and has already evoked comparisons to acclaimed acts such as Big Thief and Drive-By Truckers.
Artifacts is set for release on Friday, October 6, 2023 through 31 Tigers Records. Hear lead single “Interstate” here!
