PARKERSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Human remains discovered in the Ohio County area Thursday reportedly have no connection to an active missing person case according to authorities.
As disclosed by the Parkersburg Police Department on Friday morning, the discovery of human remains in the Elm Grove region of Ohio County is unconnected to the ongoing search for Gretchen Fleming – 27 of Vienna, per the Parkersburg Police Department – who was reported missing on December 12th.
The distinction comes in the wake of reports from an unnamed national news outlet which is alleged to have alluded to a connection between the two active cases.
“The Parkersburg Police Department learned this morning that a national news outlet alluded that human remains located in Ohio County, West Virginia may be connect to the Gretchen Fleming case,” read the statement. “At this time there has been no connection made between the two cases. Also, the outside agency that was referred to as contacting the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department was not the Parkersburg Police Department.”
While the news outlet in question was not named specifically, a Friday morning New York Post article credited to Fox News appears to heavily imply a connection between the two cases.
“About two hours outside of Parkersburg, where Fleming went missing, suspected human remains were found in Elm Grove,” reads an excerpt from the piece.
Those with any information regarding the potential whereabouts of Gretchen Fleming have been asked to contact Detective J.M. Zimmerman at (304) 424-1072 or a local law enforcement agency in reference to case #P2207164.
